This ring is crafted in 9ct Rose Gold and contains the most beautiful oval banded agate stone. The 17mm x 7mm banded agate oval cabochon really sets the ring alight with its distinct horizontal banding with tones of oranges and whites. Set in a handsome bezel setting with millegrain edging and the graduated rectangular shoulders, it is a very thoughtfully crafted piece.

The interesting part of this ring is that it was made in Australia by J. Lawrence Pty Ltd and we know this because it uses Australia's very first stamping (hallmarking) system. Developed in 1889 by the Melbourne Manufacturing Jewellers Association, the system was made up of 3 squares containing the Markers Mark, the purity and a stamp of one of 4 figures confirming the purity.

In this case, the knot refers to the maker (J. Lawrence Pty Ltd), the 9 stands for 9ct and the wheat sheaf confirms it is 9ct. The system was discontinued in 1920 which is how we have been able to date the piece.
